In 1973, Tom and Jenny Lee entered the children's wear business on a friend's suggestion by opening a retail clothing store in Long Beach, CA. The store specialized in dressy infant and toddler apparel, a segment of the children's clothing industry that the Lees thought was being largely ignored by retailers. The Lees themselves were experiencing difficulty finding holiday and special occasion outfits for their then-toddler son. The store opened to immediate success.
