Read Write Inc. Phonics: Sound Blending 1

The Sound Blending Books provide extra practice for children who are starting to blend sounds. Each word is first encountered on the right-hand page. When the child turns the page, they will see the word again, with any digraphs ("special friends") underlined and an accompanying picture to help them check they have read the word correctly.

There are ten books in the series, progressing in complexity from simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words to words with digraphs, and then to consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant (CVCC) and consonant-consonant-vowel-consonant (CCVC) words. The books should be used after children can confidently blend with Nursery Green Word Cards and before they read the Red Ditty Books.
